Deputies: Driver had her own tequila setup

DADE CITY — A woman was caught driving Thursday evening with a half bottle of Jose Cuervo tequila by her side, sliced limes on the console — and two children as passengers, according to a report from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Amacenda-Velona Genoveva Amacenda-Velona, 30, of Dade City is charged with aggravated child neglect, DUI, not having a valid driver’s license and not having a motor vehicle registration. She was held Friday at the Land O’Lakes jail without bail.

The children, ages 7 and 9, wore seat belts , the report states. Amacenda-Velona was pulled over about 7:30 p.m. near U.S. 98 and U.S. 301 for not having a passenger side headlight on her white 1999 Pontiac Grand Am, which had California tags, the report states. Her blood-alcohol level was 0.233, the report says, nearly three times the level at which the state assumes impairment. Amacenda-Velona did not speak English but, through an interpreter, told deputies she only had three or four beers at a friend’s house, the report says.
